How good will Patrick Kane be for the Red Wings?

The Patrick Kane sweepstakes are over. He has landed in Detroit and will be suiting up for the Red Wings, the third original six team of his NHL career. With Kane’s signing, a lot of eyes are on him and his hip resurfacing surgery he is coming off of. Can this Kane be the Kane we have seen in recent years? After a slump in New York last season, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk discuss just how good Kane will be for Steve Yzerman’s Red Wings.

Tyler Yaremchuk: What type of player are the Red Wings getting with Kane? We saw him go to the Rangers last season and things did not go great. Did that hip surgery fix him and is he a point-per-game guy they’re adding to the lineup

Frank Seravalli: I think 100% bold prediction, Patrick Kane; for the rest of this season it will be at an 82-85 point per game pace or more. I think that’s where he is, 85-90 point range. Yes, this hip resurfacing surgery is a big deal, yes it’s a lot to come back from, and other players have come back and hit the wall. Kane was steadfast in pushing this to get back, more than that he was also in a spot where it looked like his agility had come back. 

Frank Seravalli: So, think back to Kane playing with a bad hip last year, still scoring 60 points. So this is a bargain for the Red Wings. One year deal at $2.75M, all salary, and this is important because if there were bonuses, it would make the cap hit higher. Detroit retains some cap space and can continue to go out and add to their roster as they get closer to the March 8 trade deadline.
