Hurricanes are in full control against the Capitals

The Carolina Hurricanes find themselves just one game away from the Eastern Conference Final after taking a 3-1 series lead against the Washington Capitals on Monday night.

While Alex Ovechkin netted his first goal of the series in Game 4, the Hurricanes cruised to a 5-2 win and will have a chance to close out the series on Thursday in Game 5 in Washington, D.C.

On Tuesday’s episode of Daily Faceoff Live, Tyler Yaremchuk and Frank Seravalli looked at just how dominant Carolina has been through the series so far.

Yaremchuk: Sean Walker scored just three and a half minutes after Ovechkin to deliver the dagger, and it’s a 3-1 series lead for the Hurricanes. It feels like it might as well be 3-0 at this point, because it’s just been absolute domination by Carolina.

Seravalli: It has been, and I think it’s just been one team dictating and asserting their will on how the game and series should be played.

Things did get a little bit tense, but I think this 3-1 series lead actually indicates how disparate this series has been to this point. Even in the game that the Capitals won, the Hurricanes were right there.

This is a Capitals team that has scored at will all season long and has really hit a speed bump for the first time. I feel like one of the big things we see from them is that they don’t know what to do next. They don’t know how to fight through and break through to get those next goals, to get the next opportunity to be able to create more.

From a Carolina perspective, they’ve snuffed the life out of and removed the oxygen from what makes Washington so difficult to play against. With that, they found ways to be opportunistic and to just create some chances on their own.

You can catch the rest of their Hurricanes vs. Capitals breakdown and the entirety of Tuesday’s episode here.
