The Carolina Hurricanes were on a cakewalk through the Eastern Conference in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Carolina had swept the Ottawa Senators in the first round without ever trailing, and then dominated the Philadelphia Flyers in Game 1 of the second round to continue that streak. However, that all ended for the Hurricanes in Game 2 with two early goals from the Flyers, according to ESPN Insights via X, formerly Twitter.

“The Carolina Hurricanes are finally trailing in a game. After 5 straight playoff games without trailing and 618:51 of game time, dating back to the regular season, the streak is over,” ESPN Insights reported.

The Flyers were in control after goals from Jamie Drysdale and Sean Couturier. However, the Hurricanes got one back in the first period from Nikolaj Ehlers, before Seth Jarvis tied the game with nine minutes remaining in the third period. The Hurricanes have been proving that they’ll be a difficult out after some playoff failures, and the comeback bid in Game 2 was no different.

Philadelphia faced some late adversity in their first-round matchup after it looked like they could also pick up a sweep. The Flyers went up 3-0 early on their Pennsylvania rivals in Pittsburgh, before Sidney Crosby and the Penguins rallied back to force a Game 6. Cam York scored the overtime winner in that game to avoid a deciding Game 7.

With the Hurricanes entering this series on plenty of rest while the Flyers had to play two extra games than they wanted, it’ll be interesting to see if Carolina manages to outlast them.
