Hurricanes Punch Ticket to 8th Straight Playoff Appearance

It’s now official: after defeating the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-1 on Thursday night, the Carolina Hurricanes punched their ticket to the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

For the eighth straight season in the Rod Brind’Amour era, there will be playoff hockey in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Eight Straight Playoffs in Rod Brind’Amour Era

After going a decade without a playoff appearance, the Hurricanes, since Brind’Amour took over, have now clinched a berth in the playoffs for eight straight seasons. In the previous seven, the Hurricanes have won at least a round, with three Eastern Conference Final appearances. It’s been another great season in Carolina, as they are now 48-21-6 with 102 points. Furthermore, with a 4-1 Buffalo Sabres loss to the Ottawa Senators, the Hurricanes stand alone at the top of the Eastern Conference with seven games remaining.

With an ‘x’ next to their name, now it’s about staying as healthy as possible until the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs begin on the weekend of April 18 and 19. Also, it’s about getting enough points to secure the number one seed in the Eastern Conference and home-ice advantage through the playoffs. If the playoffs started right now, they would take on the Senators. However, with some teams having seven or more games left in the regular season, a lot can change between now and April 18-19.

In the game that led the Hurricanes to clinch a playoff spot, Logan Stankoven had two goals, his first multi-goal regular-season game. That saw him push his goal total to 17 on the season. Alexander Nikishin scored shorthanded to give the team a 5-on-5, shorthanded, and a power-play goal in the same game. The power play goal? It was scored by Andrei Svechnikov, giving him three straight games with a goal, and the Hurricanes are now on an eight-game power-play goal streak.

After the win on Thursday night, Brind’Amour stated, “(Making the playoffs) is not our goal. We all know that… But you can’t get to that next phase if you don’t play well for six months.” Their eighth straight playoff clinch marks a new franchise record. Furthermore, they’ve been atop the Metropolitan Division since Dec. 11. It’s been evident that the Hurricanes have been playing great hockey in 2025-26, and now their season will continue in a little over 15 days.

With the power play within the top five and scoring another goal on the man-advantage, it’ll be a massive boost for the Hurricanes as they look to make another deep playoff run. Furthermore, they’re 27-10-2 at the Lenovo Center and 21-11-4 on the road. As long as they keep winning on the road and make Lenovo a fortress as the “Loudest House”, it has the recipe to be another fun playoffs in Raleigh. Winning games on the road is key. Being able to go from 16 road wins last season to now having 21 with a few road games remaining gives some confidence for the Hurricanes to make things happen this postseason.

While it’s amazing that they clinched a playoff berth for the eighth straight season, the work is not done with seven games remaining before the playoffs. Since the clinch goal has been met, now it’s onto the number one seed in the Eastern Conference, then make the Stanley Cup Final. The goals will keep adjusting as they go through each round of the playoffs. As it stands right now, it’s stay healthy, claim the number one seed and Metropolitan Division title, and get ready for the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
