Hurricanes sign Pyotr Kochetkov to two-year extension

“Pyotr is an incredibly talented goalie whose aggressive style fits our team very well,” Hurricanes general manager Eric Tulsky said. “We believe in his ability to win games for this organization and are thrilled he wants to continue helping us pursue championships in Carolina.”

Kochetkov, 27, missed the majority of the 2025-26 campaign with injury. He posted a 6-2-0 record with an .899 save percentage (SV%) and 2.33 goals against average (GAA) in nine appearances with the club.

Across five professional seasons in North America, the 2019 second-round pick has a 71-38-12 record with a .905 SV% and 2.45 GAA in 125 career NHL regular-season games. He’s also appeared in 15 Stanley Cup Playoff games, he went 2-5 with an .860 SV% and 3.83 GAA.

Kochetkov has also played in 47 AHL regular-season games across four seasons, where he’s posted a 34-7-5 record with a .912 SV% and 2.34 GAA. He was part of the Chicago Wolves’ Calder Cup championship in 2022, where he posted a 5-1 record with a .950 SV% and 1.65 GAA in six appearances that spring.

The Hurricanes finished 2025-26 with a 53-22-7 record and 113 points, first in both the Metropolitan Division and Eastern Conference. They defeated the Vegas Golden Knights in the Stanley Cup Final to win their second championship in franchise history.
