Hurricanes’ Svechnikov Poised for Consistency After Career Season

Now that Svechnikov had a career season, he has put away the doubters for good. Plus, with him winning a Stanley Cup, this could be the start of another level for the Russian forward. If that is the case, that would be beneficial for Svechnikov, who is entering the sixth season of his current eight-year, $62 million deal.

Svechnikov is being paid $7.75 million annually for the next three seasons, making him an unrestricted free agent (UFA) after the 2028-29 season. The best part about that is he will only be 29 years old when the contract expires. If he can continue putting up 70 or more points a season, or at least 65 at the minimum, there’s an excellent chance of an extension. With him being 29 in three seasons, the Hurricanes could sign him to an extension, possibly keeping Svechnikov a lifer in Raleigh.

That all depends on how Svechnikov does over the next three seasons, including the upcoming season. However, now that he has the taste of winning a Stanley Cup, especially with the team that drafted and developed him, he will be hungrier than ever to win it again. Plus, he is someone who is always driven to be better, and he will be seeking to smash his totals from last season.

It’ll be interesting to see how the upcoming season goes for Svechnikov, especially after the year he just had. He set new career highs and followed that up with six goals and 11 points in 19 playoff games. Plus, he just won his first Stanley Cup. He will be driven to get back there again. Furthermore, with Seth Jarvis out until late November or early December, he will be the guy to lead the way in scoring. But if Ehlers is on his opposite wing, that could open things up for both of them and Aho. Either way, after a huge 2025-26 season, are fans and the Hurricanes in store for another fantastic season from Svechnikov?
