Hurricanes take series lead with 3-1 win over Rangers in Game 5

The Carolina Hurricanes are still undefeated at home during the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs after a 3-1 win over the New York Rangers in Game 5 of their second round series.

Carolina and New York traded first period goals, but the Rangers couldn't get the pack past Hurricanes goaltender Antti Raanta for the remainder of the game with the exception of a second period goal from Ryan Strome that was disallowed after a challenge showed the Rangers were offsides.

Raanta only needed to make 16 saves in the win as New York struggled to get shots on goal. The Hurricanes made three of their 34 shots on Thursday with Vincent Trocheck, Teuvo Teravainen, and Andrei Svechnikov each recording goals.

While the Hurricanes haven't lost at home, the team hasn't won on the road either. Prior to its Game 5 victory, Carolina lost back-to-back games in New York that evened up the series at 2-2. Game 6 will be played back at Madison Square Garden on Saturday.
