Let’s face it: David Reinbacher hasn’t had much luck since joining the Canadiens. He hasn’t had the chance to show his full potential, because he’s found himself sidelined more often than not. Now, the young Austrian defenseman, the 5th overall pick in 2023, has been injured again at practice… and that can be worrisome to many. It’s easy to understand why, too.
The Canadiens made a mistake by selecting him 5th overall in 2023… ” “We can already talk about a flop…” It’s boring, but these phrases have already found their way into some people’s heads. That said, Simon Boisvert explains it well in the latest episode of his podcast(The Sick Podcast – Trust The Process): Reinbacher has been really unlucky… and it’s hard to judge him just because of the injuries.
And Snake takes it a step further, saying he sees Reinbacher playing 15-20 games in Montreal at some point this season, after December, when the defenseman is healthy and back in form in Laval.
Stop saying David Reinbacher is a bust because of his injuries!
Once he’s healthy, Snake believes he will play 15-20 games with the #GoHabsGo #thesickpodcast @GaumondShayne pic.twitter.com/j8G2xRKLJU– The Sick Podcast – Trust The Process (@sickpodprocess) September 30, 2025
The ultimate goal, clearly, is to see Reinbacher play as many games as possible next season. We agree it was a shame to see him injured last week …. but if he’s able to return to action quickly(even if there’s a chance he’ll miss more than four weeks) and find his rhythm easily in Laval, that’ll help him for the rest of the season too.
And if he does well and a defenseman gets hurt in Montreal, the Habs could have him in their sights for NHL play in 25-26.Sounds like something I’d like to see happen to him…In closing, it’s too early to throw in the towel on David Reinbacher. Far too early, in fact. He’s 20 years old, and we’re talking about a guy who still has great potential… but who hasn’t been lucky in recent years either. If everything falls into place and he avoids the infirmary as often as possible, the Canadiens may be able to count on him for several years… and that’s the goal of the Canadiens organization, because we know that they believe (a lot) in him.

– A real one!
Brendan Gallagher will continue to carve his place in Canadiens history this season. If he remains healthy he should easily get into the Top-15 all-time for games played, Top-15 all-time for goals scored, and Top-25 all-time for total points, passing some pretty impressive names… pic.twitter.com/lrirlxHJ53
