'In five years, the Canadiens could lose Nick Suzuki'

The Canadiens have a strong core for the coming years.

The team already has the pieces to compete among the National Hockey League's elite… and there are also some promising young players coming up through the organization.

All of this is to say, then, that the coming years are likely to be truly, truly exciting in Montreal. It's hard to imagine otherwise, in fact…

Anthony Martineau discussed this on Tony Marinaro's podcast this morning: in three to five years, the Canadiens could be among the best teams in the league. They could have the tools needed to be truly dangerous on the ice.

But… that's when Tony Marinaro jumped into the discussion to say this:

In five years, the Canadiens might lose Nick Suzuki. – Tony Marinaro

Tony clarified that Suzuki could leave the Canadiens at the end of his contract, which expires in the summer of 2030. But regardless, it sparked a heated debate in the Sick Podcast studios… and that's to be expected:

Anything is possible.

There's a world where Suzuki decides to leave the Canadiens to play elsewhere… but let's agree on one thing, though.

The chances of that scenario happening, at first glance, seem slim. The captain always says it: he loves the city, he loves playing for the Montreal Canadiens… and he has the logo tattooed on his heart, too.

He's proud to wear the C on his jersey in Montreal. And it would take a lot for him to choose to leave…

Ideally, Suzuki will spend his entire career with the Canadiens and become one of the great players in the organization's history. He's in good company and has what it takes to enjoy a long and brilliant career in Montreal.

But maybe in five years, things will be different for some reason. No one wants that to happen, let's be honest… because losing a player like him would definitely hurt the team.
