Introducing the 2024-25 Flames roster

The Calgary Flames announced their 2024-25 season-opening roster on Monday afternoon.

The 2024-25 Flames feature a 23-man active roster with two goaltenders, eight defencemen and 13 forwards, along with one player on the injury reserve list.

Here’s a rundown of all 24 players on the opening roster.

#32 – Dustin Wolf – goaltender

About the 2024-25 roster:

The Flames’ roster features eight homegrown draft picks representing the 2007 (Backlund), 2015 (Andersson), 2018 (Pospisil), 2019 (Wolf), 2020 (Zary), 2021 (Coronato) and 2023 (Honzek) drafts. Including the injury reserve list, the Flames are carrying 11 Canadians, four Americans, two Swedes, two Czechs, two Slovaks, two Russians, and one Belarusian.

The youngest player on the roster is Sam Honzek (born Nov. 12, 2004), while the oldest player is Mikael Backlund (born Mar. 17, 1989). The tallest player is Adam Klapka (6’8″), the shortest player is his fourth-line linemate Ryan Lomberg (5’9″). The heaviest player is Klapka (235 pounds), the lightest player is Dustin Wolf (166 pounds).

Changes from last season’s opening roster:

On the 2023 opening roster but no longer with the club are – deep breath – Chris Tanev, Dryden Hunt, Nikita Zadorov, A.J. Greer, Jacob Markstrom, Elias Lindholm, Dillon Dube, Dennis Gilbert, Noah Hanifin, Adam Ruzicka, Walker Duehr, Jordan Oesterle and Andrew Mangiapane.

New faces since last year’s opening roster are Wolf, Bahl, Barrie, Bean, Miromanov, Pachal, Rooney, Mantha, Honzek, Klapka, Zary, Lomberg, Pospisil and Kuzmenko.

That’s a ton of turnover in 12 months.

Coaching staff and management

The head coach is Ryan Huska (49; Cranbrook, B.C.), who’s entering his second season as Flames head coach.

The assistant coaches are Brad Larsen (47; Nakusp, B.C.), Dan Lambert (54; Saint Boniface, Manitoba), Cail MacLean (48; Middleton, Nova Scotia), Jason LaBarbera (44; Burnaby, B.C.) and Jamie Pringle (49; Picton, Ontario). The forwards are managed by Larsen and MacLean, the defencemen by Lambert, the power play by MacLean, the penalty kill by Larsen, goalies by LaBarbera and video by Pringle.

The general manager is Craig Conroy (53; Potsdam, New York), who’s entering his second season as Flames GM. His assistants are Dave Nonis (58; Burnaby, B.C.) and Brad Pascall (54; Coquitlam, B.C.).
