With just a couple of months until the 2026 Winter Olympics, some tough roster decisions need to be made by the various federations in advance of next February.
One player who has quietly started to bolster his stock is Spencer Knight. The Chicago Blackhawks goaltender has had a strong start to the 2025-26 season, potentially making a case for why he could represent the United States in Milan.
Through 11 appearances, the 24-year-old has a record of 6-3-2, with a 2.33 goals-against average, a .926 save percentage and one shutout.
While it might be tough to eclipse Connor Hellebuyck and Jake Oettinger on the team’s roster, there seems to be an avenue for Knight to sneak in as the No. 3 for the red, white and blue.
On Wednesday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Tyler Yaremchuk and Carter Hutton discuss Knight’s chances of making the U.S. Men’s Olympic roster.
Carter Hutton: The guy that’s open for me is that third spot…I think about younger guys. I think about a guy that you’re going to bring in, and he’s going to get experience. The guy that highlights it for me right now is Spencer Knight. I think Spencer Knight is playing himself into the situation. He’s been a huge difference-maker…and arguably their MVP outside of [Connor] Bedard. He’s been a guy that, when you start to forecast international tournaments moving forward, him and Dustin Wolf seem to be the guys that are going to take the torch.
I like the idea of getting a younger, up-and-coming goaltender to be there and be a part of it. At the end of the day…if you end up getting Spencer Knight or you end up getting Dustin Wolf, you’re probably out of the tournament anyway at that point. So, it’s a good experience and a good growth curve for Team USA.
