The New York Islanders have announced that Hall of Famer Mike Bossy has passed away at the age of 65.

"The New York Islanders organization mourns the loss of Mike Bossy, an icon not only on Long Island but across the entire hockey world," Islanders President and General Manager Lou Lamoriello said. "His drive to be the best every time he stepped on the ice was second to none. Along with his teammates, he helped win four straight Stanley Cup championships, shaping the history of this franchise forever. On behalf of the entire organization, we send our deepest condolences to the entire Bossy family and all those who grieve this tragic loss."
Bossy was selected by the Isles with the 15th overall pick in the 1977 NHL Amateur Draft and the winger spent his entire 10-season career with the team. Bossy recorded a franchise-record 573 goals over 752 regular-season games played and 553 assists (third on the Islanders' all-time list) for 1,126 points (second), while earning eight All-Star nods and winning four Stanley Cups.
The native of Montreal, Quebec put in at least 50 goals in nine straight seasons (an NHL record) and led the league in power-play goals three times, game-winning goals twice and goals twice. Bossy also holds the franchise record for most playoff goals with 85.
He was named to the NHL's list of the 100 all-time greatest players in 2017.
