Islanders Sign Mattias Maccelli to a 1-Year Contract

Maccelli was first drafted by the Arizona Coyotes in the 4th-round, 98th overall in the 2019 NHL Draft. He played in his first NHL game on March 3, 2022. In his next game, he scored his first NHL goal. Maccelli remained with the Coyotes until the 2023-24 season. When the team moved to Utah, Maccelli made the move as well, playing in the Utah Hockey Club’s inaugural season. On June 30, 2025, he was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for a 3rd-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft. He remained there for the rest of the season.

Maccelli has played in a total of 295 games and has recorded 169 points via 51 goals and 118 assists.

Islanders Upgrade at Forward

Maccelli has proven offensive skill and has been a strong forward for a couple different teams now. With the Maple Leafs in the 2025-26 season, he was playing left wing on the first line alongside John Tavares and William Nylander. He has proven that he has the skills necessary to be in the top six, now it is just about translating that to the Islanders.

The Islanders are now down Anders Lee, after he signed with the Utah Mammoth earlier today. There will definitely be a need to adjust the lines, but the Islanders just lost a strong left wing, but also picked up another to take his place.

Maccelli is only signed to a one-year contract, so he needs to make his time on the island count.
