The NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced Sunday that New York Islanders defenseman Logan Stanley has been fined $3,865 for slashing New Jersey Devils forward Nico Hischier.

The fine was the maximum allowable under the collective bargaining agreement.

The incident occurred during the Devils’ 5-4 overtime win against the Islanders. While the two players stood in front of the New York net, Stanley took several massive whacks at Hischier, which left him sprawled on the ice before a scrum ensued in front of the net.

Stanley received two minor penalties on the play, but the Devils only received a two-minute penalty as they also committed an infraction in the scrum.

In 16 games, Stanley has five assists and 34 penalty minutes while averaging 21:16 of ice time. Now in his seventh NHL season, the 6-foot-7 defender has 14 goals and 53 assists for 67 points in 294 career regular-season games with the Islanders, Buffalo Sabres and Winnipeg Jets.

As for Hischier, the 27-year-old center has seven goals and four assists for 11 points in 17 games with the Devils in 2026-27. In 10 NHL seasons, the New Jersey captain has 206 goals and 293 assists for 499 points in 626 career regular-season games.

The Islanders are 7-6-3 with 17 points through their first 16 games of the 2026-27 season. Forward Bo Horvat and defenseman Matthew Schaefer are tied for the team lead with 16 points; Horvat has a team-leading seven goals while Schaefer has 11 assists.

As for the Devils, they are 12-5-0 with 24 points in 17 games. Forward Jack Hughes leads the way in all offensive categories with nine goals and 14 assists for 23 points.
