The Montreal Canadiens have looked really good throughout the first 11 games of the regular season. However, there still seems to be a hole offensively next to Zack Bolduc and Kirby Dach. Unfortunately, Joe Veleno hasn’t been able to fill. Over the past few weeks, both Joshua Roy and Owen Beck have been given a shot to play on that line, but neither of them has been able to do enough to prove that they belong in the NHL right now. With that being said, it may be time to give someone new an opportunity at the NHL level in Jared Davidson.

Davidson is leading the way for the Laval Rocket with 6 goals and 8 points in 9 games. Just like Roy did early on, he has proven that he has the offense that should allow him a shot at playing with the big club. However, unlike Roy, Davidson also brings some grit to the table, so he can fit on either an offensive or a checking line at the AHL and maybe even the NHL level. The only thing is that he needs to be given a chance to show what he can do with the Canadiens before we can really be sure about what he can do with the team.

The next time the Habs need to be a forward call-up, no matter how well Roy or Beck are doing, they should give Davidson his chance because he has become a warrior who can do a little of everything with the Rocket, since arriving at the team for the 2023-24 season.
After improving each year since entering the pros, it has become clear that Davidson is an asset to the Habs organization and officially deserves his shot at playing for the Habs. The reason I believe he can be better than both Beck and Roy right now is that he plays more of an all-situations type of game.
Chances are that Davidson can prove to be a good player in some areas with all the different intangibles he brings to the game. He may not be able to score right away, but he will throw hits and be relentless on the forecheck to make up for it when he is in a scoring slump. This is something that separates him from Roy as two of the Rocket’s top scorers. Roy is more about playing a finesse style, while Davidson plays a more of a in your face style. Another thing that fans will like about Davidson is that he would give the Habs another guy who could drop his gloves and protect teammates.

The parts of his game that could hold Davidson back are that he doesn’t have the greatest vision when he has the puck, which has been apparent throughout his time with the Rocket, after putting up just 28 assists in 116 games with the team thus far. Nonetheless, his ability to put the puck in the net is a great trait that any team can use for secondary scoring. His other issue is that he isn’t the greatest skater and could lag behind his faster teammates at times. However, he makes up for that, similarly to Brendan Gallagher, who plays an intense, hard-working game.
When all is said, the truth is there is no player more deserving of a call-up at forward than Jared Davidson after the first month of the AHL season.
What are your thoughts on the possibility of bringing Davidson up to test what he can do?
