Jack Eichel scores game-winner for Golden Knights in final seconds vs. Senators

Jack Eichel's 2021-2022 NHL season — his seventh in the league — didn't start out as planned. The 2015 second overall pick failed his physical and was stripped of his team captaincy with the Buffalo Sabres in September, before eventually being traded to the Vegas Golden Knights in early November.

Following disc replacement surgery after the trade, Eichel was cleared for contact with his new squad one month ago and made his debut with the Golden Knights on Feb. 16. On Sunday against the Ottawa Senators, the 25-year-old from North Chelmsford, Massachusetts had his first big moment in Vegas.

In nine games with the Golden Knights, Eichel now has three goals and three assists for six points.

Eichel burst on the scene during the beginning of the 2015-16 campaign at just 18 years old. He was named a first team All-Rookie after notching 24 goals and 32 assists for 56 points in his first season.

Eichel made his first of three consecutive All-Star teams in 2018 and had his best season statistically in 2018-2019 when he scored 28 goals and set career-bests in assists (54) and points (82.) During the 2019-2020 campaign, he ranked third in the NHL in game-winning goals (nine), eighth in goals (36) and 10h in points (78.)

Vegas is currently 32-21-4 and in fifth place in the Western Conference with 68 points.
