Jack Eichel was the big name that Vegas landed to lead them to the Stanley Cup, but now, it appears he could be on the way out in the near future.
The Vegas Golden Knights were searching for a star early in their tenure, and after giving up a haul, they landed Jack Eichel, who has been exactly what they were looking for, playing a key role in the team clinching the 2023 Stanley Cup, the first in franchise history.
Now, after a disappointing exit from the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs, questions have been asked about the future of the 28-year old star, for whom the 2025/26 season will be the final year of an eight-year, $80 million deal originally signed with the Buffalo Sabres.
That's a topic that was recently brought up by David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, revealing that the team want him to remain with them long-term, and while extension talks are officially yet to take place, they can begin over the summer.
Eichel, 28, will be entering the final year of an eight-year, $80 million contract. The Knights have already voiced their desire to sign him to a long-term extension - presumably an eight-year deal - which they will be able to do starting July 1.
Over the last three seasons, Eichel has tallied 66, 68 and a career high 94 points, showing that he continues to get better with age, and although the team lost to the Edmonton Oilers in five games, he had five points in that time, with no one else on the team stepping up around him.
There's always the chance that something will change, as Vegas have shown so far in their tenure in the NHL that they are absolutely ruthless, but as of right now, all signs are pointing to the team retaining their biggest star for years to come.
