The Montreal Canadiens picked up a 2-0 win over the St. Louis Blues last night, getting goals from Zach Bolduc and Florian Xhekaj. However, the story of the night was 21-year-old goaltender Jacob Fowler, who stopped all 46 shots he faced to record the shutout and earn his sixth consecutive win.

With last night’s win, Fowler improved to 6-1-0 on the season, posting a 1.54 goals-against average, a .942 save percentage, and his second shutout. He currently ranks fourth in the league in goals-against average, second in save percentage, tied for fifth in wins, and tied for second in shutouts.
Fowler has appeared in only 24 career NHL regular-season games, but he has already made an impression. He holds a 15-7-2 record with a 2.17 goals-against average, a .919 save percentage, and three shutouts. He also appeared in one playoff game last season, allowing a goal on two shots.
Fowler has been a highly touted goalie prospect in Montreal ever since the Canadiens selected him 69th overall in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft out of Boston College.
During his two seasons at Boston College, Fowler went 57-13-3 with a 1.90 goals-against average, a .932 save percentage, and 10 shutouts. He won the Mike Richter Award in 2024-25 as the top goaltender in college hockey after posting a 25-7-2 record, a 1.63 goals-against average, a .940 save percentage, and seven shutouts.
Fowler joined the Canadiens organization in 2025 and played with the Laval Rocket in the American Hockey League. Across 32 AHL games, he recorded a 22-9-1 record with a 2.19 goals-against average, a .918 save percentage, and three shutouts.
The Canadiens’ top goaltending prospect is officially making his presence felt in the NHL. Fowler has shown he can deliver at every level, and his performance against the Blues was another example of his potential.
If he continues playing the way he has to start the season, Fowler could become one of the NHL’s top goaltenders for years to come. That would also make the Montreal Canadiens an incredibly difficult team to beat as they continue building for the future.
