Jani Nyman Named AHL Player of the Week

The Coachella Valley Firebirds are in the middle of a five-game win streak. The Firebirds have a 21-12-4-0 record with 46 points and are six points back from the Colorado Eagles. They shutout the Abbotsford Canucks Sunday, 3-0. They finish January with four home games, returning to action Wednesday night against the San Jose Barracuda. As of today, the Firebirds are in the fourth spot in the Western Conference Pacific Division, where the top seven teams make the Calder Cup Playoffs. This past week, they beat the Texas Stars on consecutive nights, Tuesday night 5-2 and then Wednesday night 6-3. They then headed into San Diego and blanked the Gulls 4-0 on Saturday night and finished the week at home with a 3-0 win over the Canucks. Jani Nyman has had seven points this past week in four games; he had six goals and one assist for Coachella and has played a big part in the team’s current win streak.

The Seattle Kraken selected Jani Nyman with the 49th overall pick in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. In 2022, Jani represented Finland in the U18 World Championships, where they took home the Broze medal. In 2023-2024, he made his AHL debut playing in five games for the Firebirds, finishing with two goals. The following season, Nyman made the AHL All-Star game, playing in 58 games with 28 goals, 16 assists for 44 total points. He made his NHL Debut back on March 12th, 2025, against the Montreal Canadiens, where he scored his first career. He played in 12 games that year with three goals and three assists. This season, he started the year with the Kraken, playing in 24 games with four goals and two assists. He was assigned back to Coachella Valley on December 30th, 2025. Since returning to the Firebirds, he has played in nine games with seven goals and two assists.
