The Winnipeg Jets are heading to Dallas for Game 6 of their first-round playoff series with the Stars after winning Game 5 at home. The Jets were able to stave off elimination by shutting out the Stars and keeping this series alive.
As Winnipeg gets ready for Game 6, there are real concerns about whether they can extend the series again. The Jets have struggled heavily on the road this postseason, going 0-5 over the five attempts.
Jets star goalie Connor Hellebuyck spoke about the postseason road struggles, getting brutally honest about it all.
“It’s unfortunate that we got into this position,” Hellebuyck said, referring to the series deficit, not his road record. “But you know what? I believe in this group, I believe in myself, and I believe in all of our fans, so we’re going to continue to compete and leave it all out there.”
The Jets have the utmost faith in Hellebuyck, even with the struggles that he has seen during the playoffs. Hellebuyck owns a 0-5 record with a 5.84 goals-against average and .793 save percentage this postseason on the road.
“So you know what? We have so much confidence in Connor and what he does, what he means for our team. Games like tonight are certainly the reason why we have that belief.” said Jets captain Adam Lowry.
If the Jets are going to have any chance to salvage this series, they are going to need Hellebuyck to massively step up. If he can perform like he did in Game 5, the Jets may have a real chance of sending this playoff series to a Game 7.
Game 7 between these two sides is scheduled to be on Saturday, May 17, at 8 p.m. ET.
