The Winnipeg Jets are one of the top teams in the NHL. Last night, they continued their hot play with a 5-4 OT win over probably the other top NHL team – the Washington Capitals – on Saturday. Here are the standout performances (quick hits) from key players:
Josh Morrissey played a key role in the Jets’ 5-4 overtime win over the Capitals by scoring two goals, including the game-winner. His solid play pushed his point streak to three games, with three goals and nine points in his last seven games. Morrissey’s game-winner came on a perfect pass from Mark Scheifele.
Although he finished the game with a minus-2 rating, Morrissey was still a key in both the offensive and defensive zones. He’s clearly one of the NHL’s best blue-liners. How good is he? Look for him to reach the 70-point mark for the second time in three of his last three seasons.
Cole Perfetti scored a goal and collected an assist in his team’s win. He opened the scoring on the power play and later registered an assist on Dylan Samberg‘s goal. Perfetti’s been on a heater. He scored four times and has collected seven points in his last five games. His partnership with Nikolaj Ehlers and Vladislav Namestnikov proves to have great chemistry.
The 23-year-old has passed the 30-point mark in two straight seasons. Perfetti was also a key contributor to helping his team maintain puck control and generate sustained offense during the game. Even at his young age, he’s proving to be a reliable playmaker for the Jets.
Dylan Samberg played a key role in the Jets’ win over the Capitals by scoring a goal and adding an assist. The 26-year-old has shown solid growth this season, with four goals and 12 points in his 33 games. He’s playing a simple but dependable offense and defense game. He’s on track to set new career highs offensively. His all-around play helps to build the Jets’ defensive strength.
The Jets’ 5-4 overtime victory extended the team’s winning streak to six games. Although Connor Hellebuyck gave up a few too many goals (for him), he also made 25 saves. His team’s offense helped him pull out a win.
Mark Scheifele hit a milestone with his 60th point of the season (31 goals, 29 assists) in just 54 games. It’s his 10th career 60-point season, and he passed Blake Wheeler‘s nine seasons for the most in Jets/Atlanta Thrashers history.
