Jets sign Haydn Fleury to two-year contract extension

The Winnipeg Jets have signed defenseman Haydn Fleury to a two-year contract extension that carries a $950,000 average annual value, reports Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Free Press.

Through 39 appearances with the Jets last season, Fleury notched seven assists, six penalty minutes, and a minus-12 rating while averaging nearly 16 minutes of time on ice per game. Fleury then added another two points in eight postseason outings.

Originally chosen seventh overall by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2014 NHL Draft, the 28-year-old native of Carlyle, Sask., has since appeared in 307 career contests counting stops with the Hurricanes, Anaheim Ducks, Seattle Kraken, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Jets in which he has registered 10 goals and 34 assists for 44 points. Fleury has also picked up four points through 26 appearances in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Beyond his time in the NHL, Fleury has also spent part of five seasons in the AHL where through 106 career contests he has collected 11 goals and 28 assists for 39 points. In 2019, Fleury helped the Charlotte Checkers capture the Calder Cup, putting up six points in 11 playoff games en route to the championship.

A graduate of the Canadian junior circuit, Fleury spent part of five seasons with the WHL’s Red Deer Rebels from 2011-16. In all, through 259 appearances at the junior level, Fleury amassed 30 goals and 104 assists for 134 points. In his final junior campaign, Fleury was named to the CHL’s Memorial Cup All-Star Team after he posted five points in four games.

For the Jets, the club closed out the 2024-25 regular season with a 56-22-4 record and 116 points to capture the Presidents’ Trophy for the first time in franchise history. The Jets were later eliminated by the Central Division rival Dallas Stars in the second round of the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
