A talented collegiate veteran has inked his first NHL deal.
On Wednesday, the Winnipeg Jets announced that the team has signed forward Lucas Wahlin to a one-year, two-way contract. The deal is for the 2026-27 season, with an NHL cap hit of $850,000. Wahlin will report to the Jets’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Manitoba Moose, for the remainder of the 2025-26 campaign on an amateur tryout.

The undrafted winger has been a key player in helping build St. Thomas into a sustainable D-I hockey program over the past four years. Under head coach Rico Blasi, Wahlin has grown into an all-around player, showing that he can be as reliable in his own zone as well as expressing a substantial scoring prowess.
Wahlin has been one of the CCHA’s top scorers for the past three seasons. He finished second in the conference in scoring last season, posting 17 goals and 41 points in 36 games. This year, the senior potted a career-best 21 goals, leading all CCHA skaters, while totaling 39 points, giving the Tommies captain three straight 30-point seasons to round out his NCAA career.
The Woodbury, Minn. native’s role as a leader on and off the ice was crucial in helping St. Thomas make it to back-to-back Mason Cup finals, though the team lost to Minnesota State each time.
Wahlin was named the CCHA’s top defensive forward this season, as well to the All-CCHA First Team. This, after he was named a second-team all-star as a sophomore, and a first-team all-star last season.
In 137 career games with the Tommies, Wahlin scored 56 goals and 75 assists for 131 points.
Wahlin joins the Moose as they continue to battle for a spot in the Calder Cup Playoffs. Manitoba (29-24-6) is fourth in the AHL’s Central Division, 11 points clear of sixth place.
