On Monday, the Winnipeg Jets agreed to terms on a two-year contract with forward Morgan Barron, avoiding arbitration. The deal will carry an AAV of $1.85 million through the 2026-27 season.

Barron was one of three players from Winnipeg to have filed for salary arbitration. Forward Gabriel Vilardi and defenseman Dylan Samberg both have yet to sign new contracts.
Barron has been part of the Jets organization since the team acquired him from the New York Rangers in March 2022 in a trade that saw Andrew Copp head to the Blueshirts.
The Halifax native has been a full-time member of the Jets since the beginning of the 2022-23 campaign. That season, he registered a career high 13 assists and 21 points in 70 games, playing in five of the team’s Stanley Cup Playoffs that spring.
Barron has been a depth piece for Winnipeg during his time with the team, having scored no more than 20 points in each of the past two seasons. He notched 11 goals in 2023-24, but a lower-body injury led to him missing the postseason.
This past year, the 26-year-old scored eight goals and seven assists for 15 points in 74 games. He also posted two assists in the playoffs as the Jets made it to the second round before being eliminated by the Dallas Stars.
Across five NHL seasons, Barron has appeared in 256 regular-season games, scoring 30 goals and 30 assists for 60 points, having played in 18 playoff affairs.
With Barron’s new deal, the Jets have a little over $15.6 million in cap space for the 2025-26 season, according to CapWages. After Vilardi and Samberg, the team has only a couple of internal matters to attend to, but may have some space to make moves to add to their roster, hoping to prove that their Presidents’ Trophy performance this past season wasn’t a fluke.
