Winnipeg Jets first-round selection Viggo Bjorck, picked with the No. 8 overall selection in the 2026 NHL Draft in June, has made a big decision as to his plans for the 2026-27 season.
On Saturday night, Bjorck’s club team in Sweden, Djurgården IF, announced that Bjorck would be leaving the club, meaning he intends to head to North America for Jets training camp.

– Vi önskar Viggo stort lycka till i hans nya klubb och respekterar hans beslut, även om vi gärna hade sett honom i Djurgården en säsong till, säger sportchef Marcus Due-Boje.

Bjorck was in the mix as one of the top prospects in the 2026 draft throughout the entire year, and he finished ranked as the No. 9 player available according to Daily Faceoff prospect analyst Steven Ellis.
“Björck definitely lacks the size teams crave in a center,” Ellis wrote. “But that hasn’t slowed him down – he’s absolutely fearless… It’s like watching a younger Zach Benson. Björck’s shot is incredibly deceptive, especially on the power play. He doesn’t give you much to work with if you’re a goalie – and it’s because he doesn’t need to. Quick, accurate and always in a dangerous spot.”
The announcement from Djurgården paves a clear path for Bjorck to sign his entry-level contract with the Jets and push to make the team’s opening night roster out of training camp.
If Bjorck does not make the team out of camp, the door would still be open for the talented pivot to go back to Sweden on loan, where he could play for Djurgården.
In 42 regular season games in the SHL during the 2025-26 campaign, Bjorck posted 15 points on six goals and nine assists for Djurgården before recording three points in three postseason games.
He excelled for Tre Kronor in international competition as well, racking up nine points in seven contests at the IIHF U20 World Junior Championships as the Swedes claimed gold for the first time since 2012 with a win over Czechia.
Sweden did not reach the podium at the World Championships in May, but Bjorck showed he can compete against NHL caliber talent there, recording six points in eight games.
