A top NHL analyst has suggested that the next coaching destination of controversial former Chicago Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville, who resigned as Panthers head coach in 2021, is on the West Coast.
Anaheim Ducks general manager Pat Verbeek made the decision to part ways with head coach Greg Cronin after 2 years behind the bench, neither of which yielded an appearance in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
While the search is officially on for their next bench boss, NHL analyst and commentator John Buccigross wrote on his social media account of who he believes will take over in Anaheim.
Per Buccigross, the Ducks will hire controversial former Chicago Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville.
As you may remember, Quenneville's name is now synonymous with controversy after the shocking scandal involving former Blackhawks forward Kyle Beach during the 2010 postseason came to light in October 2021.
Quenneville, who had moved on from Chicago and was coaching the Florida Panthers at the time, stepped down from his role.
Additionally, Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman also resigned from his post; he's since landed a new job as the GM of the Edmonton Oilers, a move that drew considerable pushback from hockey fans everywhere.
The same will almost certainly happen if Quenneville does in fact land with the Ducks. Quenneville was recently re-instated by Commissioner Gary Bettman and is now eligible for employment in the League, but has yet to be hired by any club in any official capacity.
As head coach of the St. Louis Blues, Colorado Avalanche, Blackhawks and Panthers, Quenneville has a career record of 969-572-77. He's also a 3x Stanley Cup winner with the Blackhawks (2010, 2013, 2015).
