Friday is expected to be a hectic day in the NHL, as teams only have until 3 p.m. ET to make trades.
The New York Islanders have already made a big move on Thursday, as they have sent Brock Nelson along with William Dufour to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for Calum Ritchie, Oliver Kylington, a pair of first-round picks (2026 and 2027) and a conditional pick in the third round of the 2028 NHL draft.
The Isles did not stop there. After the transaction that saw them part ways with Nelson, who spent 11-plus seasons with New York until the trade, the Islanders flipped Kylington to the Anaheim Ducks for future considerations.
New York announced that move on Instagram, and it did not take much time before fans started to have all kinds of jokes about how they are going to miss Islanders "legend" Oliver Kylington.
"15 minute Islanders legend," said a fan.
"Thanks for everything, Oliver. Once an Islander, always an Islander. ," another commenter posted.
"Gonna miss this guy… isles legend," joked another.
"he will be remembered ," one Instagram user chimed in.
"Video tribute incoming," a commenter shared.
"PUT EM IN THE RAFTERS," read a hilarious comment.
"I’ve seen enough hang his number in the rafters," a different fan said.
In 13 games with the Avs in the 2024-25 NHL regular season, the 27-year-old Kylington had a goal and three assists.
As for Islanders, life without Nelson begins for the franchise, which took him 30th overall in the first round of the 2010 NHL draft.
