A veteran goaltender will give some insurance between the pipes in Manhattan for at least one more season.
On Sunday, the New York Rangers announced they are signing Jonathan Quick to a one-year contract extension, with an AAV of $1.275 million. The deal includes a 20-team no-trade clause.

Well earned. Quick is one of the great stories in the NHL this season.
Quick is currently playing under a one-year deal, with an $825,000 cap hit, that he signed with the Blueshirts on July 1 last summer.
Many thought it was a gamble for the Rangers to take on an aging veteran like Quick. The 2012 Conn Smythe winner was the third goaltender for the Vegas Golden Knights team that won its first Stanley Cup last spring. However, the 38-year-old is turning back of the clock with some of his performances this season, giving the Rangers quality starts when Igor Shesterkin has needed a couple of days off.
That has proven to be key in the Rangers’ success this season, as the team currently sits atop the Metropolitan Division, six points ahead of the Carolina Hurricanes.
So far this season, Quick is 13-5-2 with a 2.45 goals-against average, a .916 save percentage and two shutouts. The Milford, Connecticut native has won four of his last five starts.
Quick has picked up 388 wins in his 16-year career, just three away from tying former Buffalo Sabre Ryan Miller for the most wins by an American goaltender in NHL history (391). In 774 career appearances, Quick has a 2.47 GAA, a .911 SV% and 60 shutouts. He is 49-43 in 92 playoff starts, with a 2.31 GAA, a .904 SV% and one shutout.
Quick is a two-time NHL All-Star, winning two Stanley Cups with the Los Angeles Kings before being traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets on March 1, 2023. He was effectively moved to the Golden Knights the following day.
After losing to the Toronto Maple Leafs in a shootout on Saturday night, the Rangers (40-17-4) are scheduled to host the Florida Panthers on Monday night. The Blueshirts are two points back of the Panthers for the best record in the Eastern Conference, and the entire NHL.

The time Gabriel Bourque had to change equipment for Cole Caufield
The American Hockey League isn’t for everyone. Cole Caufield learned this well when he was sent to Laval at the start of the 2021-2022 season. That’s what Les Sport’ischhh podcast photographer Bernard Olivier Loyer told us during the recording of the latest episode Bernard Olivier Loyer was an equipment manager for the Rocket when Caufield joined the team to get his bearings. He recounted how, when he first joined the team, Caufield was told he’d have to wear CCM instead of his usual Bauer gear – all because the AHL has a partnership with CCM that means only three players per team can wear anything other than CCM. According to Bernard Olivier Loyer, Caufield really didn’t like the announcement and even called Marc Bergevin directly to ask for his Bauer gear back. The problem is that the three players who use different equipment are often team leaders or veterans with many years of professional experience. Caufield, on the other hand, was arriving there in his first full professional season. He finally got what he wanted and was able to play with his Bauer equipment thanks to Gabriel Bourque, who agreed to wear CCM until Caufield’s recall. His only visible piece of equipment that wasn’t CCM was his Warrior stick, and you’d have to be a real badass to change sticks like that, considering it’s perhaps the most important piece of equipment in hockey. Wrestling legend Hulk Hogan leaves behind a complicated legacy
On Thursday, wrestling icon Terry "Hulk Hogan" Bollea died at the age of 71. "WWE is saddened to learn WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has passed away," the company said in a statement. "One of pop culture’s most recognizable figures, Hogan helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s... WWE extends its condolences to Hogan’s family, friends, and fans." Hogan was the first true superstar to emerge in the wrestling industry, capturing a casual audience worldwide and bringing new eyes to the sport. He was an unbelievable draw, both as a baby face and as a heel. From his time as an All-American hero to leading the New World Order and teaming with Randy Savage as part of the "Mega Powers," he has been a staple of the scene for decades. Who can forget his WrestleMania III moment, where he defied the laws of physics to body-slam a 520-pound Andre the Giant? Or, more recently, his match with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson at WrestleMania 18? His last appearance on WWE RAW on Jan. 6 saw him booed throughout, highlighting the rocky legacy Hogan leaves behind. Hogan's universal popularity has plummeted in recent years, primarily due to a racism scandal that led to his removal from the Wrestling Hall of Fame, only to be reinstated in 2018. Nevertheless, the damage had been done. Hogan's outdated and unwelcome outlook on specific aspects of life derailed the final stanza of a legendary career. Still, there's no denying that without Hogan, the wrestling we know and love today wouldn't exist. There wouldn't be WWE on the world's largest streaming platform, or All Elite Wrestling, which is developing into one of the most successful challenger brands. Instead, there would be smaller, more localized promotions, all competing for a sliver of television time. Hogan popularized the sport by bridging the gap between the wrestling ring and Hollywood. During his time in the spotlight, Hogan appeared in movies such as "Rocky III," "No Holds Barred" and "Suburban Commando," all of which helped bring his larger-than-life persona to a new audience. It's no surprise, then, that The Rock, John Cena and Dave Bautista have all made similar jumps in recent years. Hogan leaves behind an everlasting imprint on the wrestling world. Unfortunately, it comes with multiple asterisks; however, that doesn't change what he achieved as the first global wrestling star.
Biggest impact of Josh Naylor trade may still be to come
While the Seattle Mariners landed an impact bat on Thursday night, their trade for Josh Naylor has also likely impacted the entire upcoming MLB trade deadline. On Thursday, Seattle sent a pair of top pitching prospects to the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for Naylor, with left-hander Brandyn Garcia (ranked as Seattle's 13th-best prospect by MLB.com) and right-hander Ashton Izzi (ranked as Seattle's 16th-best prospect by the same rankings) heading to the desert. Knowing what the Diamondbacks received in exchange for Naylor could well set the market for what is to come between now and the conclusion of the 2025 MLB trade deadline, set for 6 p.m. (Eastern) on July 31. The 28-year-old first baseman was ranked by The Athletic as the 17th-best trade candidate likely to be available, but ranked behind just one other first baseman (Baltimore's Ryan O'Hearn, who was slotted in at 16th). If Naylor brought in a pair of pitching prospects, including Garcia, who has appeared in two games this season for Seattle, the Diamondbacks could be salivating over what third baseman Eugenio Suarez and his 36 home runs could bring in return. All MLB teams who will be buying or selling at this year's trade deadline have had the first price bar set for them with the Naylor deal. Now it will be fascinating to see what comes next, especially knowing that Naylor will be a free agent at the end of this season. If Seattle gave up two pitching prospects for a player who could be a late-season rental only, imagine what the Minnesota Twins may be able to recoup for starting pitcher Joe Ryan (under team control through the 2027 season) or the Boston Red Sox might get back for outfielder Jarren Duran, who won't be a free agent until the 2029 campaign. While Naylor may not be the biggest move to come during this span before the trade deadline comes to a close, his deal could be the one that establishes selling prices for the trades that are to come. With so few MLB teams expected to be outright sellers, the price for available talent was expected to be high. We learned on Thursday night with the Naylor swap just how high those prices may go.
Report: Player has made it clear to Man City he wants to join Tottenham, Spurs working on move
Tottenham Hotspur are focused on signing Morgan Gibbs-White from Nottingham Forest, despite the delays. According to TBR Football, Manchester City were interested in signing the 25-year-old midfielder as well, but he has already informed them that he wishes to join Tottenham instead. Manchester City have now moved on to other targets. The development will come as a huge boost for Tottenham. It will be interesting to see if they can convince Nottingham Forest to get the deal across the line now. The midfielder was excellent for Nottingham Forest last season, scoring seven goals and picking up 10 assists in the Premier League. He could prove to be a useful acquisition for Tottenham, who need more creativity and technical ability in the final third. Tottenham need Morgan Gibbs-White Tottenham need to improve their squad if they want to do well in the league and the Champions League next season. Signing talented players like Gibbs-White will help them match up to elite clubs. The 25-year-old is capable of slotting into multiple midfield roles, and he will add goals and creativity to the side. James Maddison can be quite inconsistent at times, and Tottenham need more depth in that area of the pitch. Having another top-quality creator would be ideal. Can Spurs convince Nottingham Forest? Initially, there were rumours that Tottenham were prepared to trigger the £60 million exit clause in his contract, but Nottingham Forest are unhappy with the leak of the confidential information regarding his clause, and they are planning legal action against the north London club. It will be interesting to see if the two clubs can work out their differences and finalise the transfer. The player is keen for the move to go through, and Nottingham Forest will not want to hold onto an unhappy player.
