Nazem Kadri has been a breath of fresh air for the Colorado Avalanche since he arrived at the trade deadline. The veteran forward has slotted right in, and it’s clear he’s having fun out there. Take Friday’s 4-1 win over the Blackhawks: Kadri notched a slick power-play goal, fired three shots, and threw in a couple of hits just to remind everyone he still plays hard.
Since joining Colorado, he’s got two goals and two assists in eight games. Both of his goals came on the man advantage, which shows he’s really clicking on the power play alongside MacKinnon, Makar, Necas, and Brock Nelson. It’s not just the points, either—Kadri’s skating hard, finding openings, and putting pucks on net from everywhere. The guy moves like he’s been on the team all season, not someone new trying to find his spot.
All told, Kadri has 14 goals and 45 points in 69 games between Calgary and Colorado. He’s racked up 15 power-play points, 194 shots on goal, and 47 hits. That minus-25 rating might raise eyebrows, but it doesn’t tell the whole story. Kadri is doing all the little things that don’t always show up in the box score—winning battles along the boards, driving the net, and helping his line create space.
What’s really impressive is what his numbers say under the surface. He’s in the top percentile for skating distance among forwards, and his shooting from high-danger and midrange spots has been elite. He’s logging tons of offensive-zone starts, skating hard every shift, and still finishing chances in key areas. Even with less ice time than some other top scorers, Kadri is making it count.
Looking ahead, the Avalanche have a chance to push deep into the playoffs, and Kadri is a big reason why. The Penguins, for example, have been giving up goals like candy lately, which means more opportunities for him to show what he can do. Colorado clearly knows they picked up a guy who can tilt games in their favour, and Kadri isn’t letting them down.
Bottom line: Kadri’s not just filling a roster spot. He’s scoring, hitting, and making the Avalanche better every night. Watch him—he’s proving that even midseason additions can shake things up in a big way.
