Kevin Bieksa is a beloved former NHLer in Canada now working as an analyst, and now his son Cole is looking to continue the legacy as he joins the Vancouver Giants.
For many years, Kevin Bieksa thrived in the NHL as a tough, physical threat to opponents, playing in 808 games between 2005 and 2018 with the Vancouver Canucks and the Anaheim Ducks.
The Ontario native became beloved by a generation of Canucks fans, and now working for Sportsnet, he continues to cover the game in Western Canada, much to the delight of fans.
It may not be long before we see a new Bieksa on our screens however, as Kevin's son Cole is reportedly rising through the junior ranks well, now getting a massive opportunity.
According to the Western Hockey League's Vancouver Giants, 81 players will be attending training camp in the coming weeks, and among those players is Cole Bieksa, who is looking to get his shot at the WHL level to make some noise.
The 17-year old defenseman had a combined 141 points in 99 games a season ago with Fairmont Prep, and while he's expected to play in the BCHL with the Coquitlam Express, given this production, there's a great chance we could see him in the WHL.
While being the son of a former NHLer doesn't guarantee you a spot at the highest level, it does give one the tools to succeed, and with great offensive production for the talented young blue liner, if given a shot, the belief in Western Canada is that he could make something of himself in the very near future.
