According to Russian media, at least one KHL club displayed some interest in signing former Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Carter Hart, though nothing ultimately came to fruition.
Ak Bars Kazan head coach Anvar Gatiyatulin told Championat‘s Dmitry Storozhev that his club considered Hart, even seeking a Flyers defenseman’s opinion, but in the end decided to stick with what they already had.
“We negotiated with Timur Bilyalov. We found out who was on the market. We believe in our goalies,” Gatiyatulin said to Storozhev. “I worked with Egor Zamula, I asked him about (Carter) Hart. But we believe in our goalies.”
Bilyalov, 29, is heading into his sixth consecutive year with Ak Bars after signing a two-year contract extension with the Russian outfit on April 27. The seven-year KHL veteran was once a KHL All-Star and named the KHL Best Goaltender, among his assortment of other awards from his time playing in the VHL and MHL leagues as a youngster.
Hart, of course, has not played professional hockey since Jan. 20, when the Flyers lost 7-4 to the visiting Colorado Avalanche. Hart left the Flyers on a personal leave of absence on Jan. 23 and was charged with one count of sexual assault on Feb. 5, stemming from his alleged involvement in the 2018 Hockey Canada sexual assault case.
That charge has not been proven in court.
After going through the July 1 deadline without a qualifying offer from the Flyers, Hart became an unrestricted free agent, so signing a contract abroad would have been no issue for him.
Additionally, forwards Michael McLeod and Dillon Dube, who were also charged correspondingly in the Hockey Canada case, signed KHL contracts this summer. McLeod signed a one-year contract with Kazakhstan-based KHL club Barys Astana on Aug. 2, while Dube joined the Belarusian Dinamo Minsk on a one-year deal on July 1.
At the time of this writing, Hart remains without a professional contract after being let go by the Flyers.

Canadiens Should Run From This Nazem Kadri Trade Proposal
Trade proposals are a fun way to pass the summer lull in NHL news. But, not all trade pitches are great ideas. A recent hypothetical linking the Calgary Flames and Nazem Kadri to the Montreal Canadiens does not quite pass the smell test. The pitch was presented by Kuljit Parmar of the FanSided blog “A Winning Habit,”. In it, he suggests the Canadiens send Juraj Slafkovsky, Alex Newhook, and a draft pick to Calgary for Kadri, removing a high-ceiling winger for a second-line center fix. The trade pitch is not just bold — it’s a massive overpayment. Why This Trade Makes Little Sense for the Canadiens As productive as Kadri was last season, he’s also 13 years older than the key piece going back to the Flames in Slafkovsky. At just 21, Slafkovsky has untapped NHL potential, whereas it won’t be long before Kadri shows the natural decline that comes with age. Yes, Kadri posted 75 points in 2023-24 and 67 in 2024-25, but it won’t be long before he shows signs of an inevitable downswing. History tells us that forwards in their mid-30s rarely maintain elite production for long, and with four years left at a $7 million cap hit, Kadri is a risky investment. Slafkovsky, on the other hand, is entering the stage of his career where true breakout seasons happen. He’s coming off back-to-back 50-plus point campaigns and has barely scratched the surface of his potential. His combination of size, skill, and growing confidence under Martin St. Louis gives the Canadiens something hard to come by — a cost-controlled, high-upside top-six winger for years to come. Trading him now for a player on the back nine of his career would be selling low on a future star while buying high on a veteran whose best days may already be behind him. Even if Kadri brought short-term grit and playoff experience, Montreal is not yet in a “win-now” window. Sacrificing a foundational piece for a two- or three-year push is short-sighted team building. The Money Is Also a Massive Consideration in This Trade Even more head-scratching is the financial side of this proposal. The Canadiens would be sending out $10.5 million in the deal, and including a draft pick. If the idea is to dump Newhook onto the Flames, that seems odd considering he offers decent production. If the idea is to sweeten the deal with Newhook and the pick, it’s wild to imagine the Flames wouldn’t see Slafkovsky as payment enough. Kadri’s leadership and tenacity are valuable, but they’re not worth mortgaging the future for. The Canadiens should be focused on developing their young core, not dismantling it. Trading Slafkovsky now would be the kind of move that haunts a franchise for a decade. Simply put, this isn’t just a bad trade idea. It’s one that could derail Montreal’s long-term vision entirely.

Cowboys fans won't like Jerry Jones' update on Micah Parsons standoff
With the regular season approaching, the Dallas Cowboys should be aiming to extend EDGE Micah Parsons promptly. But they're still in no rush to do that. Parsons is set to play on the fifth-year option of his rookie contract in 2025 and has requested a trade. Dallas insists it has no plans to move the 26-year-old pass-rusher but hasn't clarified when it will extend him. Giving him a new deal before the regular-season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sept. 4 at 8:20 p.m. ET (NBC, Peacock) seems wise. Dallas owner Jerry Jones, however, said that's not the team's deadline, nor does it need one. "No, not at all," Jones said Wednesday, via Jonah Javad of WFAA-TV in Dallas. "You don't have deadlines when you're playing under contract." Parsons is under contract, but that doesn't mean he must suit up. The EDGE could hold out of regular-season games, like former Cowboys star running back Emmitt Smith did in 1993. The Pro Football Hall of Famer missed the first two games of the season before becoming the league's highest-paid RB at that time. Parsons hasn't said whether he would hold out of regular-season games, but it's apparent he's unhappy with where things stand. "My mouth is closed," Parsons said Wednesday while leaving the practice field in Oxnard, California, via Field Level Media. Jones didn't say if talks with Parsons would resume when the Cowboys return to Texas for their second preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens. The matchup is scheduled for Saturday at 7 p.m. ET. The owner still seems confident Parsons will play on the fifth-year option if Dallas doesn't sign him before the start of the regular season. "Again, all you've got to go on are contracts," Jones said. "We are negotiating for a contract. When you do a contract, you would hope that after a negotiation, that's what both the team and player look to see what our obligations are. I have a lot of respect for the contract." Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb played the last years of their rookie contracts. Perhaps Jones wants Parsons to do the same. Still, that would be silly. Paying the four-time Pro Bowler should be a no-brainer for the Cowboys, so they should stop wasting time and show him the money.
