Kaliyev has two goals in Ontario's last two preseason games, sparking his elevation to the taxi squad.
The 19-year-old helped Team USA win a gold medal at the 2020 World Junior Championships. During the tournament, he notched eight points (three goals, five assists) in seven games.
During the 2019-20 season with the OHL's Hamilton Bulldogs, the 2019 second-round pick tallied 98 points (44 goals, 54 assists) in 57 games.
It's unclear if Kaliyev will make his Kings debut while on recall, but he was skating on the fourth line during Sunday's practice, per Dillman.
