That doesn’t make Dach a bad person, but as Maxim Talbot analyzed, it can make him more difficult for a coach to manage.

The Canadiens team has a group attitude where everyone supports everyone else. It’s not for nothing that Lane Hutson and Mike Matheson accepted lower contracts than expected.

Talbot also explained that Dach’s high level of confidence might not be a problem with the right team, but that he absolutely had to be well surrounded.

So far, the Canadiens don’t seem to mind. Dach seems to be a valued teammate in the locker room. He is frequently seen (when he’s not injured) taking part in the little circle dance the players do just before leaving the rink after a win.

An attitude like this can also be ignored if the player brings something important to the rink. Patrik Laine is far from having the discipline and relentlessness of a Lane Hutson, but last season he played because he scored goals.

Let’s just say that Kirby Dach’s performances since his arrival in Montreal haven’t helped in this respect.

Perhaps this is something that will weigh in the balance when Dach’s future with the Canadiens is discussed in the coming months. His contract expires at the end of this season.
