Kirill Kaprizov has missed 12 of the last 15 games because of a mysterious lower-body injury, and despite logging 22 minutes in Minnesota's 4-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday, and now he's scheduled to undergo surgery.

Minnesota Wild general manager Bill Guerin confirmed Tuesday morning that Kaprizov will have surgery to repair a lower-body injury. He'll miss a minimum of four weeks.

According to Michael Russo of The Athletic, surgery is scheduled for Friday and he could miss about six weeks.

It's not ideal for the short term, but it would mean the Wild could get their best player back for the end of the regular season and the playoffs.

Kaprizov suffered the injury in a game against Chicago on Dec. 23. The Wild initially said the injury wasn't a much of a concern, but the 27-year-old didn't return to the lineup until Jan. 23. He's played in three games since, scoring no goals while producing two assists and eight shots.

Kaprizov has 23 goals and 29 assists in 37 games this season. The Wild enter play Tuesday with 62 points, good for third place in the Central Division behind Dallas (63 points) and Winnipeg (71 points).
