Among the teams that are in the thick of the playoff race, one team is putting itself in position for the postseason, despite not having a big-name star.
The Seattle Kraken are currently hanging onto the second Wild Card spot in the Western Conference. Yet, they are doing it without a marquee player who is feared by opponents. Forward Jordan Eberle has been having a good year, as has the likes of Matty Beniers and Chandler Stephenson, but the team has relied on great goaltending and solid defense to win.
While that might be enough to get them to the postseason, Seattle needs a little bit more firepower upfront if they want to compete with the upper echelon of the West.
On Friday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Tyler Yaremchuk and Carter Hutton discuss the need for Seattle to have a superstar in order to be considered a true threat.
Tyler Yaremchuk: What do you make of the idea that Seattle’s maybe going to dangle a piece like Shane Wright to go and try to get one of the Robert Thomas’ or Jordan Kyrou’s of the world?
Carter Hutton: I think it’s very concerning in Seattle when you start thinking about your future and where is your point production going to come from up front? I know Shane Wright’s a good player, he plays both sides of the puck…If you’re Seattle, you’re sitting here right now and Jordan Eberle is your leading point getter, and he’s 112th in the NHL when it comes to points. So, picture that he’s your number one point getter and he’s 112th, where you’ve got other teams buzzing along producing 60, 70, 80 points and he’s at 38.
So, that is concerning when you talk about trying to win in a league that you have to play perfect in, and without a superstar. So, for now, it seems like they need to make a move because Joey Daccord’s playing very well. Philipp Grubauer, maybe he becomes a piece you can move off of because he does make a lot of money. For Seattle, it feels like they need a superstar and they need it now.
