This afternoon Seattle shared that forward Logan Morrison has been recalled from AHL Coachella Valley. With an open roster spot, no corresponding transaction was required.

Usually facing a reasonable flight up to the Pacific Northwest in his past call-ups to Seattle, Morrison is in for a much longer trek to join the big club from here. The Kraken are preparing to take on the Hurricanes for the NHL’s Global Series in Helsinki Finland starting in four days.

The 24-year-old center is fifth on the Firebirds’ team scoring list with his nine points in 12 games. Pacing their offense with his team-leading 61 points in 68 games last year, the Guelph, Ontario native has become a strong depth piece in the Kraken organization. Undrafted out of the OHL, Morrison turned heads in 2021-22 with his 100-pt campaign leading the defunct Hamilton Bulldogs to a J. Ross Robertson Cup. He eventually caught on with Seattle as an undrafted free agent.

Earning a one-year extension worth $850k at the NHL level on the heels of his breakout AHL season, Morrison passed through waivers in September to land in Coachella Valley. He’ll be hungry to get into a game for the Kraken, making four appearances out of the gate as a first-year pro in 2023-24, but not putting on the Seattle uniform since, still looking for his first NHL point.

Given the circumstances of the team having two games on another continent, Seattle needed to fill out their roster in the event of any possible injuries while they are in Finland. Barring any unexpected developments, Morrison is likely an extra forward for the group who won’t see any game time in the week ahead, although he’ll surely enjoy the time with the Kraken as part of the exciting international event.
