Kraken sign Cale Fleury to two-year contract extension

“Cale’s been an important player in our organization,” said Kraken General Manager Jason Botterill in a team statement. “He’s developed into a steady and reliable defenseman, and we’re happy to have him under contract for the next two years.”

The 26-year-old Fleury recorded an assist in 14 regular-season games in 2024-25. As a member of the Kraken’s AHL affiliate, the Coachella Valley Firebirds, scoring seven goals and 19 assists for 26 points in 39 regular-season games. He was named to the AHL’s Pacific Division All-Star roster.

The 6-foot-1, 204-pound defender has a goal and two assists in 77 career NHL regular-season games with the Kraken and Montreal Canadiens. In the AHL, Fleury scored 32 goals and 97 assists for 129 points in 258 career regular-season games with the Firebirds, Charlotte Checkers and Laval Rocket. In 28 AHL Calder Cup Playoff games, he’s recorded five goals and 12 assists for 17 points.

Fleury, a native of Carlyle, Sask., was taken in the third round of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. In junior, he spent four seasons with the Western Hockey League (WHL), scoring 32 goals and 95 assists for 127 points in 269 career regular-season games with the Kootenay Ice and Regina Pats.

The Kraken finished the 2024-25 season with a 35–41–6 record, seventh in the Pacific Division, missing the playoffs for a second straight season. The team would fire head coach Dan Bylsma on April 21 after just one season.
