Kraken sign goaltender to one-year contract

The Seattle Kraken have re-signed netminder Victor Ostman to a one-year contract for the 2026-27 season, the team announced on Friday. The deal carries a two-way structure and an NHL cap hit of $850,000. The 25-year-old is set to become a restricted free agent again when the contract expires next summer.

Ostman spent his first full professional season with the AHL’s Coachella Valley Firebirds in 2025-26, appearing in 36 games. He finished with a 17-15-3 record, a 2.81 goals-against average, a .906 save percentage and two shutouts. He also recorded two assists, leading all AHL rookie goaltenders and tying for fifth among all league netminders in that category. His best single-game performance featured 42 saves.

Standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 205 pounds, Ostman made his first NHL start with Seattle on April 16, 2026, against the Colorado Avalanche, where he turned aside 33 of 35 shots in a 2-0 defeat.

The Swedish netminder signed with the Kraken as an undrafted free agent in April 2024 after completing a four-year collegiate career at the University of Maine, which followed one season with the USHL’s Chicago Steel. Across 86 games with Maine, he compiled a 35-38-7 record, a .905 save percentage and a 2.82 goals-against average. His best collegiate campaign came in 2022-23, when he posted a 14-12-4 record with a .918 save percentage and a 2.21 goals-against average. During his senior season, he went 13-6-1 in 21 appearances.

Before becoming a full-time AHL goaltender, Ostman spent most of the 2024-25 season with the ECHL’s Kansas City Mavericks. He managed a 21-7-4 record with a .903 save percentage and a 2.52 goals-against average in 32 games. He also appeared in five contests for Coachella Valley, putting together a 2-1-2 record with a .916 save percentage and a 2.38 goals-against average, while making one relief appearance with Seattle.

Ostman will remain part of the Kraken’s organizational goaltending depth as he returns for the 2026-27 season.
