The Seattle Kraken announced that they have signed restricted free agent forward Mackie Samoskevich to a three-year deal. Per Elliotte Friedman, the deal carries a $3.85MM AAV ($11.55MM Total Value) and which will have Samoskevich under RFA status following the 2028-29 season.
Samoskevich, 23, joins Seattle’s forward group after arriving from Florida in a June 21 trade that sent a 2026 first-round pick and a conditional 2027 second-rounder to the Panthers. A first-round selection (24th overall) by Florida in 2021, the right-shot winger grew into an NHL regular over the past two seasons and won a Stanley Cup with the Panthers in 2025.
He set career highs in 2025-26 with 20 assists and 32 points across 77 games, though his goal total dipped to 12 on a modest 7.5 shooting percentage. Samoskevich has 63 points (27 goals, 36 assists) in 156 regular-season games, all with Florida, plus one assist in four playoff appearances.
The Kraken view the Newtown, Connecticut native as a breakout candidate who can push for a larger role than the bottom-six minutes he saw in Florida’s deep lineup. He also brings a familiar face to the room, having been a college teammate of Kraken center Matty Beniers at Michigan in 2021-22.
Having given up a first-round pick to acquire him, Seattle is betting the added opportunity unlocks the offensive upside that a crowded Florida lineup never had room for.
