Longtime Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kris Letang has been deemed as completely untradeable by beat writer Josh Yohe of The Athletic in a recent piece.
The Pittsburgh Penguins could be stuck with veteran defenseman Kris Letang until whenever it is that he decides to call it a career.
Letang, who has been limited in recent years by a host of health issues that included suffering multiple strokes and having recently undergone heart surgery, was listed as a player that the Penguins are 'stuck' with, per beat writer Josh Yohe of The Athletic.
Penguins president and general manager Kyle Dubas probably couldn't trade him even if he wanted to.Team sources said Letang is "unmovable."
Given his health, salary and contract length, it's believed that no NHL teams are interested in Letang's services. He's too much of a risk, and his play has deteriorated. Letang's unique health problems would require teams to pay an enormous amount of insurance on his contract, which they don't seem eager to do.
Letang has played his entire NHL career with the Penguins and has won 3 Stanley Cups with the franchise, and is arguably as much a Pittsburgh icon as future Hall of Fame forwards Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin are.
All 3 players will have their sweater numbers retired and hung in the rafters at PPG Paints Arena when their careers come to a close thanks to their numerous accomplishments and contributions to the team over the years.
Letang has played in 1,161 games and has 772 points (175G, 597A). He also has 3 years left on his current contract with an AAV (average annual value) of $6.1 million.
