LA Kings Training Camp Preview: Carter George

With their sights set on a deep playoff run, Soo acquired George because he was the best goalie available on the market, and it offered him a chance to win an OHL championship before his departure to the pros. George continued his stellar play, providing stable goaltending for the Greyhounds and scoring a goalie goal.

Unfortunately for Soo and George, their hopes of a deep playoff run were immediately dashed with a second-round bow-out in five games to the eventual OHL and Memorial champion Kitchener Rangers.

In 22 games with Owen Sound, George posted a 10-9-2 record, 3.12 GAA, .899 SV%, and one shutout. With Soo, the 20-year-old posted a 13-8-3 record, 2.40 GAA, a .913 SV%, and three shutouts in 24 games. In 10 playoff games, he posted a 2.36 GAA, .910 SV%, and a shutout.

2026-27 outlook

George will turn pro full-time for the first time in his career. You may recall he posted a 33-save shutout in his first professional game against the San Jose Barracuda on April 12th, 2025, showing a glimpse of promise and hype in net for the Kings.

Now, that promise and hype will have the spotlight on him and Hampton Slukynsky. Both could share the net in Ontario, and if they do, it could provide a fun tandem for the Reign.

George has drawn a lot of comparisons to Jonathan Quick, with a similar style of play, though he is a better puck-handler than Quick was. The Kings having their top two goalie prospects turn pro at the same time is rare, given they had Jonathan Quick penciled as the number-one starter for quite some time. Now, they will see which one develops and can take that mantle.
