LA Kings Training Camp Preview: Kevin Fiala
Kiyoshi Mio-USA TODAY Sports

With training camp just around the corner, we are previewing each player on the LA Kings roster. Up next: Kevin Fiala!

Kevin Fiala

Birthdate: July 22, 1996

Birthplace: St. Gallen, Switzerland

Height: 5’10

Weight: 205 lbs

Position: Left wing

Shoots: Left

Draft: 1st round, 11th overall, 2014 NHL Entry Draft

2023-24 season

Entering the second year of a seven-year deal, Kevin Fiala remained one of the Kings’ best and most creative forwards on the Kings. Sometimes, the 28-year-old skilled forward can try to be too creative and often turns the puck over, which make Kings fans pull their hair out. On the other hand, you live with that with all the good plays that he can create. Let Kev be Kev or live and die by the Fiala.

After a strong preseason showing on a line with Pierre-Luc Dubois, it became short-lived in the regular season after Todd McLellan pulled the plug on the duo after a handful of regular-season games. Fiala, after the split, found a home on a line with Phillip Danault and Trevor Moore.

He finished top five on the team in goals (15), assists (22), primary assists (14), and points (37), according to the MoneyPuck website. In addition to those basic five-on-five numbers, Fiala finished second in Corsi For percentage (56.21%) on the team, per Natural Stat Trick. After missing 13 games due to injury in his first season in LA, Fiala played in all 82 games and finished with 73 points (second on the team and 30 power-play points (led the team).

2024-25 outlook

Could we see Fiala play on a line with Quinton Byfield? The latter is expected to move back to center with Dubois traded to Washington. Wouldn’t that be exciting to watch if Byfield continues to take the next step? Anyway, expect Fiala to be a dynamic forward the Kings again this season. Yes, Fiala will make those players that will make you pull your hair out, but he will also make plays that not many forwards on the Kings roster will make.  This is the most skilled forward the Kings have had since Ziggy Palffy. Look for him to finish high up in a lot of offensive categories on the team.

How many points will Fiala get? 75? 80? 90? Abandon the 1-3-1 and let your skilled players do their thing might help with that.
