LA Kings Training Camp Preview: Koehn Ziemmer

To his credit, head coach Andrew Lord praised his work ethic for staying on the ice after practice to work on his game and said Ziemmer was “quietly becoming a great story” for the team.

There were concerns about his foot speed at the pro level, as you could see the lack of acceleration, but as for his goal-scoring prowess, he recorded 11 goals in 57 games, including a natural hat trick on February 7th against the Bakersfield Condors in a 4-3 comeback victory. The 11 goals aren’t the amount we were accustomed to seeing while he was in juniors, but most of them were in the “timely ones” category. He also showed good signs of physicality on the forecheck.

2026-27 outlook

It’ll be interesting to see where Ziemmer slots into the lineup this year. I would be surprised if he is a rotational player like last year, but I can see him come out at some points as the Reign will need to find ways to give other prospects playing time.

It’s no secret the organization likes to slow-burn their prospects when it comes to the development side of things, and Ziemmer was no exception to that last year. I would like to see him get at least a role on the third line and have minutes on one of the power-play units. Either in front of the net, down low, or from the left circle with his right-handed shot.
