LA Kings Training Camp Preview: Martin Chromiak

With training camp just around the corner, we are previewing each player on the LA Kings roster. Up next: Martin Chromiak!

Birthdate: August 20, 2002

Birthplace: Ilava, Slovakia

Height: 6’0

Weight: 190 lbs

Position: Right wing

Shoots: Right

Draft: 5th round, 128th overall, 2020 NHL Draft

*NOTE: Starting this past Sunday (8/23/2026), my Mom picked the order of the training camp player previews for the Reign players because I couldn’t figure out what order to do them in. So, I asked for her assistance. Today, she chose Martin Chromiak!

2025-26 season

One word came to mind when thinking of Martin Chromiak’s season: finally! After looking like a forgotten prospect, Chromiak had a resurgent last month of the 2024-25 season on a line with Charles Hudon and Glenn Gawdin.

That final month earned him a one-year contract for the 2025-26 season, and while it looked to be like another slow start, Chromiak turned in his best season as a pro. He finally received top-line minutes and played on the top power-play unit, and the results saw him flourish offensively. In 71 games, Chromiak led the Reign in goals (28), power-play goals (12), and points (56).

Yes, a streaky player he is, but we finally saw him use the main tool in his toolbox that he was shy to use at times throughout his first four years as a pro: his shot! His play might have earned him a spot on the list of options for a potential call-up, but he never made his way up to the Kings. He cooled off in the playoffs, with his lone tally an empty-net marker in a 5-1 Game 2 victory over the Coachella Valley Firebirds in the Division Semi-final round.

2026-27 outlook

Chromiak will return for his fifth year as a pro (all in the Kings organization) after signing a one-year, two-way contract with the Kings in June. From a potential hidden gem to forgotten to back to being remembered in the Kings’ prospect pool, time is starting to run out on Chromiak making an impression to be a mainstay in the Kings’ lineup.

I don’t see an avenue where he makes the opening night roster with everyone healthy, so that means he will most likely be assigned to the Reign again. However, he will have to sneak through waivers for the Kings to do that. If he passes, I expect him to have the same role as he did last year. If an injury on the Kings occurs, could we see him as a potential call-up candidate if he has a good start to the season offensively?
