We have news on Patrik Laine and David Savard, both absent from the Canadiens in recent games.

Based on the circulating information, we almost certainly expected to see Laine and Savard back in uniform this Friday (the next game) against the Washington Capitals, but it seems that won't be the case after all.

Updates on Patrik Laine and David Savard, directly from the Montreal Canadiens

First, regarding Laine, the organization announced that he skated solo before the team's morning practice but is still not at 100%.

This indicates he likely won't participate in team practice Wednesday, casting doubt on his availability for Martin St. Louis' lineup in Friday's game against Washington.

"The Canadiens indicated that Patrik Laine skated solo this morning but is not yet back to 100%. He has been absent since the end of last week due to flu-like symptoms."

As for David Savard, the news is even less positive, as he didn't even train in full gear (solo):

It's not a disaster, but more encouraging updates were expected, especially in Savard's case.
