Joseph Woll is projected to start Game 2 for the Toronto Maple Leafs, as they host the Florida Panthers on Wednesday.

Woll was thrust into action during Monday’s Game 1 victory, after Anthony Stolarz left the game with an apparent injury. Stolarz left the arena on a stretcher, but re-joined the team on Tuesday and was reportedly in good spirits, but did not attend Wednesday’s morning skate. Woll made 17 saves in the winning effort.

Stolarz was hit in the head by Panthers forward Sam Bennett, who did not receive a penalty for the play or any supplementary discipline from the NHL Department of Player Safety.

This marks Woll’s first start since April 17, making 34 saves in a victory over the Detroit Red Wings to close out the regular season. Woll posted a 27-14-1 record with a .909 save percentage during the regular season. The 26-year-old operated in a true tandem with Stolarz for most of the year, before Stolarz caught fire and cemented the playoff No. 1 role. Woll operated as a true No. 1 from December-February, when Stolarz recovered from a procedure to remove a loose body in his knee.

“I’m not really changing much in terms of my mindset and habits,” Woll said following Game 1. “I think trying to continue as best as I can to play like I’ve been playing, doing different routines, and just trying to do my best in that way, too.”

Matt Murray attended the Leafs’ morning skate and is the likely backup for Game 2. Dennis Hildeby was seen on the bench during Game 1, after Stolarz was removed from the contest. Murray played in two games for the Maple Leafs this season, spending the vast majority of the year in the AHL with the Toronto Marlies. Hildeby also attended the morning skate and could slot in as the Maple Leafs’ third goaltender.
