Leafs sign Emil Andrae to two-year contract

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Saturday they signed defenseman Emil Andrae to a two-year contract.

The financial terms were not disclosed by the team, but PuckPedia is reporting the two-year deal is worth $3.1 million with an annual cap hit of $1.55 million.

The 24-year-old blueliner was acquired by the Leafs on June 16 in a trade with the Philadelphia Flyers, along with goaltender Samuel Ersson and a 2026 third-round pick in exchange for goaltender Joseph Woll and defenseman Simon Benoit.

Andrae had two goals and 11 assists for 13 points in 61 games with the Flyers in 2025-26, averaging 15:20 of ice time. In parts of three NHL seasons, the Vastervik, Sweden, native has three goals and 17 assists for 30 points in 107 career contests.

He also appeared in four playoff games this spring, recording one assist and averaging 11:05 of ice time.

Andrae, taken by the Flyers in the second round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, has spent parts of four seasons with Philadelphia’s AHL affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, where he has 10 goals and 49 assists for 59 points in 103 regular-season contests. He also has two goals and seven assists for nine points in 16 career Calder Cup Playoff games.

He has represented his native Sweden on numerous occasions, including the 2019 IIHF World Under-17 Championships, where he earned a bronze medal. He also took part in the 2022 World Junior Championships, where he helped Sweden earn bronze.

Andrae has also spent parts of three seasons in Sweden’s top domestic league. In 91 career games with HV71, he recorded six goals and 27 assists for 33 points.
