Legendary New York Rangers Insider Reveals Rick Tocchet's Next Team

One of the longest serving NHL journalists in League history has revealed where current Vancouver Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet may be heading.

What does the future hold for Vancouver Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet?

The former Jack Adams Trophy winner for leading the Canucks to the Pacific Division title and Game 7 of the Western Conference Semi Finals in 2024 was unable to bring them back to the postseason this year; they're officially now in the offseason.

Earlier in the week, Canucks president of hockey operations Jim Rutherford explained that the team would not be exercising their option on Tocchet's contract.

We will not exercise the team option for him to stay. We don't feel it's right to have somebody here who may have his mind somewhere else-and I'd say that about anybody.

However, that doesn't mean that Tocchet's time with the Canucks has officially come to a close.

As for the contract, we've gone through a process, we've negotiated. I would suspect sometime this week, he'll have a decision. We have gone a long ways from where coaches have been compensated with the Canucks for years-forever, actually.

In the meantime, as speculation builds regarding Tocchet's next potential destination behind the bench, longtime New York Rangers journalist and hockey historian Stan Fischler has suggested that Tocchet will land with the Philadelphia Flyers, where he played during his NHL career.

The Flyers terminated head coach John Tortorella late in the year when it became clear they would miss the postseason; assistant coach Brad Shaw took over for him on an interim basis and went 5-3-1.

Would Tocchet be a fit in Philadelphia?
