Sunday night, as the Edmonton Oilers were leading the Nashville Predators 1-0, the goal scorer, Leon Draisaitl, left the game with an injury. Draisaitl took a hit from Ozzy Wiesblatt along the boards. It didn’t look like a lot, but it was enough to seen Draisaitl down the tunnel, seemingly limping.
The Oilers superstar didn’t return for several minutes, but did come back during the commercial break to test his legs on the ice. He remained on the bench for most of the period, taking one shift toward the end. He did not return for the start of the second.
There has been no official update by the Oilers on Draisaitl’s status. He did not return at any point in the second, including on the two power play opportunities. Vasily Podkolzin took Draisaitl’s spot on the man advantage, including taking a shot on net from about the goal line, a trademark Draisaitl move.
At least three or four Oilers players have gone after Wiesblatt and continued to go after him all game. He was leveled by Jake Walman in the second with a huge body check.
If there are updates on Draisaitl’s status, we’ll be sure to update the story.
