Lightning sign Dyllan Gill to three-year, entry-level contract

A young blueliner has inked his first NHL deal.

On Wednesday, Tampa Bay Lightning general manager Julien BriesBois announced the team has signed defenseman Dyllan Gill to a three-year, entry-level contract, which will begin next season.

The deal carries an AAV of $870,000 through the end of the 2026-27 season.

Gill was taken by the Lightning in the seventh round of the 2022 NHL Draft. That pick was obtained by Tampa in the deal that saw them trade Barclay Goodrow to the New York Rangers in July 2021.

Gill has spent the last four seasons with the Rouyn-Norand Huskies of the Quebec Maritime Junior Hockey League. He played just 12 games this season, scoring a goal and nine points, before suffering a shoulder injury in January that required surgery, keeping him out for the remainder of the year.

The 19-year-old was wearing the ‘C’ with the Huskies during the 2023-24 campaign, after serving as an alternate captain last season, which saw the Riverview, New Brunswick native set career highs in goals (8), assists (49) and points (57). His play helped the Huskies finish fourth in the Western Conference, eventually being eliminated in the second round by the Gatineau Olympiques.

In 185 games in the QMJHL, Gill scored 15 goals and 89 points, including eight points in 11 playoff games.

As a result of the signing, the Lightning have 33 standard player contracts signed for next season. According to CapFriendly, Tampa has just over $5 million in projected cap space.
